Tyrone Evelyn held true to his values that honesty is the best policy when he was thrust into a situation where he had to exemplify it.
Last Thursday while he was on an errand in Taylor’s Cycle Centre on St Michael’s Row, an envelope was forced into his hand by an unknown individual. After checking the contents, Evelyn, a postman, discovered that the envelope included a bill and money.
He said he identified himself to employees of the store and swore to them that the envelope would be returned to whomever it belonged. But while inspecting the bills for a name and address, he discovered they were both due to be paid that same day. The 44-year-old went about paying the bills.
On Tuesday he handed the receipts in the same envelope to legally blind 56-year-old Leroy Smith whose envelope it was. (AH)
