A ‘poor image’ of country
Wed, September 08, 2010 - 1:25 AM
THE FIERY death of six young women last Friday night is a “poor reflection on Barbados”.
Head of the Clement Payne Movement, David Comissiong, who is also a sponsor of the 34th annual Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition, made that statement last Sunday night at the Plantation Garden Theatre where patrons were asked to remember the deceased and those who mourn their loss.
“There are far too many incidents in our country of our women being hurt, injured and even losing their lives at the hands of Barbadian men. And this is not good enough. This is a very poor reflection on Barbados,” Comissiong charged.
He said that in a country like Barbados people should be operating as a “well ordered and humane” family and queried why people had fallen so far from that ideal. (YB)

I couldn’t agree more. We Bajan men need to love our women much much more. The women who brought us into this world we turn around and treat them like dirt.

Comment LinkListen, I agree that it was a more than unfortunate, senseless, tragic crime. However, the crimes that are committed worldwide do not give those countries (e.g. New York)‘a poor image’. Up to last night Bajans arrived in New York for a vacation. C’mon Mr. Commissiong.

Comment LinkMr. Commissiong I do agree that all men should change their negative attitudes and sexist behavior toward women. I further agree that this is indeed tragedy for ALL Bajans. However, let us not make this sad indcident as an act of MEN against WOMEN; for it is NOT SO. I am a man and I have never beaten or abused any woman. I have too much respect for my mother and my sisters. Please don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Deepest Sympathy to all the families.

Comment LinkI think its unfair for Mr.Commissiong to pit this tragic incident as men mistreating women. Mr.Commissiong should be be aware that men could have been in that store as well and could have been murdered like these unfortunate females were. It does reflect negatively on Barbados , but criminals and criminal deeds against men or women has no place in society. May God comfort the families and friends alike of those killed. And finally to those responsible for the sensely act, give yourselves up to bring closure.

Comment LinkPeople will always visit the US regardless of what and you said that Bajans came in last night, well they know what to expect in NY.I will say this,if Barbados is to become known as a high crime place,
it will suffer financially because it is known as a relatively safe destination,
other than that, they`re so many places that people can go and spend their time,so
don`t get the wrong idea.
