Airlift handlers on strike

KINGSTON – Airlift handlers attached to Jamaica’s two international airports – Norman Manley International in Kingston and Sangster International in Montego Bay – took strike action yesterday over a breakdown in wage negotiations.
The workers, who are represented by the National Workers Union (NWU), walked off the job to protest against the breakdown in talks between the management of Airlift Handlers Limited and the union.
The strike has implications for the processing of baggage and cargo at the airports.
NWU President, Vincent Morrison said that the airlift handlers have not received a salary increase in three years and despite the intervention of the Ministry of Labour the parties have not been able to hammer out a new wage and fringe benefits agreement. (CMC)
