Dubbed the “beacon in the North”, the Alexandra School kicked off celebrations marking its 120th anniversary with a service at St Peter’s Parish Church yesterday.

Past and present students and staff, along with well-wishers, heard principal Orson Alleyne speak about the secondary school’s contribution since its establishment on September 24, 1894.

“Without a doubt this school continues to shape the development of our country and has made its mark with students around the world,” he said.

“As with any institution challenges may arise as the dynamics of its development unfolds. However, the [happenings] of our recent past have done little or nothing to daunt the spirits of the many who have regard of our school with high esteem and pride.” (RL)
