The final chapter in one of Barbados’ worst tragedies has been complicated as a result of controversy over a proposed multimillion-dollar suit in the Arch Cot, Brittons Hill, St Michael cave-in which claimed the lives of five members of a family seven years ago.
The paperwork has been completed to bring civil action against the Attorney General, attorney at law Lemuel Rawlins and engineering firm Mahy Ridley Hazzard Engineers Limited.
Donavere Codrington, 30, wife Cassandra Codrington, 27, and three of their four children, seven-year-old Shaquanda, three-year-old Shaquille and one-year-old Yashiro, all perished when their rented apartment was swallowed up on August 26, 2007.
But the latest development has involved an apparent disagreement between attorney at law David Comissiong, who spearheaded the deceased family’s interest at the coroner’s inquest and some of the claimants involved in the proposed civil suit.
In a letter sent to the Codrington family last week, Comissiong expressed disappointment with the attitudes of some of the claimants and said he was quitting as their legal representative.
