This?country’s military commander is not happy with the quality of the applicants seeking to enlist in the Barbados Defence Force.
Colonel Alvin Quintyne told the SATURDAY?SUN that many of those desirous of wearing army clothing were not academically up to scratch.
“We have a situation where several individuals who are seeking to join the force do not even have one CXC [Caribbean Examinations Council certificate],” he pointed out.
“In such circumstances where we require applicants to have maths and English, we then will do an internal examination, which is not pitched much higher than the Common Entrance and even in such cases, we have individuals who are not meeting the standard.
“From that standpoint, we are having some challenges in that respect.”
Quintyne made it clear that the Defence Force’s standards would not be compromised and only the best personnel would be chosen.
