POLICE HAVE MADE an arrest in connection with this morning’s shooting of 23-year-old Rashidi Branch who was onboard the Jolly Roger.
Public relations officer Inspector David Welch said 26-year-old Damian Pinder of 4th Avenue, Pickwick Gap St Michael has been charged with serious bodily harm and use of a firearm.
Branch, a resident of Chapman Lane, The City and Eden Lodge, St Michael received a gunshot injury to his abdomen about 2 a.m. while on a cruise.
After the shooting, the boat was escorted to the Wharf Road by members of the Barbados Coast Guard and the victim was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance.
Pinder is expected to appear at the District A Magistrates Court tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Royal Barbados Police Force took the opportunity to remind pleasure craft owners that it is their responsibility to provide a safe environment for their patrons to socialize.
“The Force stands ready to assist the operators to ensure that the regulations are adhered to.  Owners should employ effective security measures to remove the threat of injury to persons who attend events on their crafts and to prohibit the use of illegal drugs,” the statement said. (PR/NB)
