Arthur: Change tax policies

OPPOSITION LEADER OWEN Arthur has called on Government to reverse its taxation policies in an effort to return Barbados’ economy to strong growth.
He said the present and projected economic performance justified a major change in Government’s fiscal policy especially in relation to “punitive taxes on personal income” which have reduced domestic purchasing power, local demand and the growth of activity.
Arthur was delivering the keynote address yesterday at a breakfast meeting hosted by the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados (HRMAB) at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
Addressing an audience that included Barbados Labour Party (BLP) candidates, senators and Members of Parliament as well as human resource professionals, he said the depressed economy was a result of both local and global factors.
