Arthur takes new seat in House

Newly-declared Independent Member of Parliament Owen Arthur has taken up a position on the Front Bench of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
Arthur, who resigned from the Barbados Labour Party last week, in a dramatic move this morning quietly walked into the House after the day’s session had begun.
He took his place at the far end of the Government’s Front Bench, two places away from St Lucy MP Denis Kellman, and the farthest position down from where Prime Minister Freundel Stuart sits at the other end of the same bench.
It ended the morning’s speculation about where the former Prime Minister would sit. A chair had been placed on the Back Benches of both the Opposition BLP and the ruling DLP.
In the brief interview, Arthur restated the keen desire to participate in Parliamentary activity that he had expressed when he was sworn in to office following last February’s General Elections. (GC)
