THE ATTORNEY-AT-LAW charged in connection with the theft of over $226 000 had the matters withdrawn yesterday after the monies he was accused of stealing were repaid.

Alvin David Bryan, 41, of Rose Drive, Wanstead Heights, St. Michael, who appeared in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court, was not required to plead to stealing $61 950.01, between May 26 and August 13, this year, being the proceeds of a Barbados National Bank cheque, payable to A David Bryan for $123 345.86, and belonging to Georgia Broome.

He was also not required to plead to stealing $165 000, belonging to John Jones, between February 19 and July 2, this year.

Complainant Broome, who was in court, testified that while she had made a report to police and knew that the attorney had been charged, she was now no longer interested in proceeding with the matter.

Meanwhile, attorney Bryan Weekes of the firm Weekes, Kissoon & Deane, said he had received instructions from his client John Jones and, as a result of “certain developments in the matter, he was is no longer minded to proceed with the matter”.

Weekes further explained the reason his client was not in court was because he was in France, where he lived.

Prosecutor Sergeant Trenton Small then informed the court the prosecution would not be proceeding with the matters and Acting Magistrate Manilla Renée dismissed them.

The plaintiffs are possibly very relieved to get their monies back. Im sure bringing the perpetrator to justice was no easy task. They are lucky they were even taken seriously, and that charges were actually filed!
Live within your means young man!!! He has to be as ashamed as a sheep! Total embarrassment for whomever brought him into this world.
Not another piece of business he shouldnt get!

This Issue square points to what the Populace is willing to accept.
The Laws In B’dos as per this issue are no different Repeat ““NO DIFFERENT”” than those in tHe UK or any other western Democracy

You can check that yourself.
It has to do with who meets who at the weekend cocktail parties, are u going to charge ur drinking buddy??of course not. the people are the ones to say no to this and not give up like these 2 did, they should have been charged for wasting the court’s time
Him paying back the money should have no bearing on the charges, and they should have been supeaneod to testify in court

One wonders whether all are stupid to think that, in a 2010 Barbados, one could engage in acts that are against the law and that one’s profession / fraternity / brotherhood / bum-chums would not be allowed to slither around and close ranks to prevent one from being convicted.

Will be he be disbarred or allowed to continue doing the same?

To Lawyers, if you practices not doing well go look for a full job like the most of us ordinary people.

To CLIENTS, if you are find that monies due to you are not paid or money you paid in for property purchase or to be paid out on your behalf is not done CALL IN THE POLICE TO HAVE THEM INVESTIGATE.

Now that there is no longer criminal charges against the attorney, it is incumbent on the Barbados Bar association to address this issue, by suspending him from the practice of law, for some time. in addition, it must investigate his Attorney Escrow account, to see if other clients are being taken by this gentleman.

This is criminal, these crooks should be sent to jail. What are we sayint to the rest of the world? These guys should be disbarred from practising law from their return from jail.I can see the day coming when someone will walk into one of their office and personally take matters into their own hands. At some point someone has to say enough is enough, changes have to come.

Bajans are accused of having short memories. Remember this incident when this man like many of his colleagues, aspires to become a Member of Parliament.
