BABA: Still room for Y as home

JUST WHEN BASKETBALL had its bags packed, the sport is being asked not to abandon the ‘Y’.

Not just yet.

Former Barbados Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) vice-president Anton Lovell still believes there isn’t another viable option for a home, proposing that basketball pairs with volleyball to turn the YMCA into a permanent indoor venue to house both sports.

Delivering the feature address at the BABA awards gala over the weekend, the former national player and coach said that this initiative should be atop the executive’s to-do list for the 2012 season.

“Just as the Garrison Savannah is the home of horse racing, the YMCA is the undisputed home of basketball [so] mutually beneficial plans have to be worked out between parties, [as] volleyball also needs a home for its sport,” said Lovell, a former Premier League Most Valuable Player.
