Bajans hoping to regain title

BARBADIANS BOATS J24 Impulse and Cruising B Class Perseverance will be flying the local flag while battling to retain their titles when the 27th edition of the Mount Gay Barbados Regatta sails off May 18, 19 and 20.

Thirty-two boats with a total of 230 sailors will compete in Racing A, Cruising A, Cruising B and J24 classes. Brand manager of Mount Gay, Peter Samuel praised the Barbados Sailing Association and the Barbados Yacht Club for yearly staging a small but world-class and competitive event. Legacy of Trinidad and Tobago will be defending in the Cruising A and Ven Dan Vell will return for the Racing Class A.

Gregory Armstrong of the Barbados Tourism Association highlighted that the competitors added the Barbados experience to the sailing competition which proved to be an added boost for tourism.

“The sailors come to Barbados about five days before the events and they and friends and family often spend a week which is great for the island,” said Armstrong.
