BARBADOS is all set to see the start of a new ballroom dance competition as Jahbulani Ballroom Dance Club presents It’s Strictly Ballroom tomorrow at the St Leonard’s Boys’ School, Richmond Gap, St Michael.

This competition has been created to offer dancers another avenue to sharpen their competitive skills as they try to impress the judges in their quest to accumulate points.

Dancers and patrons will also be exposed to a ten-dance championship contested in the youth and adult categories only.

Competitors will have to dance all five ballroom dances: waltz, foxtrot, quick step, Viennese Waltz and tango and all five Latin dances, cha cha, samba, rumba, paso doble and jive which will determine who is the best all round dancer in Barbados.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and competition starts at 6 p.m.

Robert Boyce, president of Jahbulani Dance Club said he hopes to make it an annual event and is hoping things go well tomorrow night.

“There are 67 couples in the competition from nine clubs with familiar and fresh faces. Nationals will be in November so this will help with placing to get into different categories.”
