Barbados has been elected as one of the Vice Chairs of the Inter-American Committee of Culture of the Organisation of American States (OAS).
The appointment was secured at the recently concluded VI Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, attended the conference, participated in a panel discussion and made a presentation on the topic: Local Development through Culture, in the plenary session which discussed Cities and Cultures.
Haiti was elected the Chair of the committee, while the other Vice-Chairs are Argentina, Guyana and Paraguay.
The Inter-American Committee on Culture (CIC) is a technical-political body which comprises representatives of the Ministries of Culture, and the highest appropriate authorities, of Latin American and the Caribbean.
It is part of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development of the OAS.
The CIC seeks to coordinate the implementation of Inter-American ministerial dialogue in the area of culture, in addition to the mandates of the Summits of the Americas and the agreements made at the Inter-American Meetings of Ministers of Culture and Highest Appropriate Authorities.  (BGIS)
