BARBADOS TRIDENTS are going straight to the Hero Caribbean Premier League T20 Cricket finals.
Earlier tonight, Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel by seven wickets, denying them the chance to go to the top of the tables and an automatic spot in Sunday’s final at Queen’s Park Oval.
Playing at their home ground Providence Stadium, Amazon Warriors eased to 118 for three in reply to Red Steel’s 117 for eight. Opener Lendl Simmons (65) and Brad Hodge (33) saw them home before a very supportive crowd.
The Red Steel limped to their target after losing wickets early and often. Cameron Delport scored 44, Johan Botha 22 and ten each from Kamran Akmal and Kevon Cooper helped them over the century mark after they were struggling on 69 for seven.
Tridents topped the tables with 12 points, while Amazon Warriors and Red Steel finished on 11 each.
The Barbados team were naturally elated as they had no control over their destiny.
