The first of the Barbados Auto Racing League’s (BARL) 19 planned races for this season will be held on July 1 with the Beacon Festival of Speed Race Meet at Bushy Park, St Philip.
The event commences from 10 a.m. and gates to the track open from 8 a.m. Scrutineering for the drivers’ cars will take place on June 29 from 4:30 p.m., and this also doubles as an evening of festivities where fans can come to relax and chat with drivers.
The following day will be for qualifying which starts from 2 p.m., with drivers chasing pole position on the starting grid.
Details of the event were revealed at a press briefing yesterday at the Wildey Gymnasium.
Chairman of BARL, Adrian Mayers, emphasized the importance of racing to the island. Pointing out that it helped employ many citizens, he said “motor sport in a controlled environment takes young boys off the streets of Barbados and creates a safe environment for them to test their vehicles and to race”.
