CONTRACTOR AL BARRACK may be a step closer to getting the $77 million owed him by Government.
While not releasing any details, Minister of Housing Michael Lashley said yesterday thatthe National Housing Corporation (NHC) had prepared a document with a view to resolving the matter.
“The Ministry of Housing and the National Housing Corporation are working around the clock to have the Barrack matter [resolved] as soon as possible.
I can say no more.?All I can say is we’ve taken a paper to Cabinet and we’re awaiting comment from other ministries,” Lashley said.
Lashley was speaking to reporters after tours of projects at River Crescent, St Philip, where 77 houses are to be constructed, and Forde’s Road, Christ Church, where 16 rental units have already been built.
This followed recent assurances to that effect by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
Two weeks ago, Stuart told reporters Government intended to have the matter with Barrack resolved as soon as possible.
“This is one of those issues that has ended up in our lap. We did not create the problem but we are called upon to solve it.
We recognize that it is a matter which we have to solve because of judicial decisions which have been made in respect of it,” Stuart said then.
Stuart gave the assurance that Government was moving sure-footedly ahead to ensure that “justice can be done to Mr Barrack”. (YB)
