BARBADOS BASKETBALL is still remembering Kirk Patrick.
The slain national basketbll player will have a memorial game in his honour tomorrow as the highlight of the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association’s opening ceremony at the Wildey Gymnasium.
The contest is set to feature several of Patrick’s close friends and fellow national players such as Kelvin Patterson, Jeremy Gill, Charles Vanderpool, Junior Moore and Corey McDonald in a team against the best of the Premier League, Intermediate and Third Division.
A prolific scorer and equally talented playmaker, Patrick had long been regarded as one of the country’s best players at both guard positions for more than a decade.
But the longstanding Pinelands legend appeared on just one senior national team – the 2009 tour to Tortola – despite a long list of accolades, which included leading the Pine-based side to a league and knockout titles.
He even impressed former NBA star Damon Stoudamire, after going toe-to-toe with the then Raptors guard in a shoot-around during an exhibition camp in Barbados 14 years ago.
Patrick was fatally shot just one year after making his senior national debut.
Awards for the 2010 season will also be presented after Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley delivers the feature speech and president Derrick Garrett addresses the body in his second speech at the helm of the BABA.
The ceremony is slated to start at 6 p.m. with the parade of clubs.
Pinelands Premier League coach Renaldo Maughn and men’s national head coach Adrian Craigwell have been tabbed to lead the two sides in the memorial game which ends the night’s proceedings.
List of players: Jeremy Gill, Corey McDonald, Kelvin Patterson, Junior Moore, Corey Williams, Ramon Simmons, Charles Vanderpool, Chris Holder, Adrian Allman, Andre Boadu, Keefe Birkett, Akeem Marsh, Jason Smith, Peter Alleyne, Adrian Stewart, Daniel Lovell, Antonio Yearwood, Mark Bridgeman, Dwayne Blackman,  Andrew Gittens, Dean Squires, Pedro Wickham, Andre Stoute, Neil Patrick, Anthony Barrow.
