The semi-finals of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) LIME under-15 competition will bowl off today at noon.
There will be an added incentive for the players to reach next week’s final. The three-day final, which starts on Monday, will be contested at Kensington Oval. History will be in the making, as it will be the first time the Oval, will host the final which traditionally has been played at the LIME ground in Wildey.
Only once, since it started in 1986, under the banner of BET and then Cable & Wireless, the final of the competition has been played away from Wildey. In 2007, it was contested at the 3Ws Oval when the clubhouse was under refurbishment.
In another first, the semi-finals will take place away from school’s grounds. Defending champions Nicholls Baking Combermere will oppose Alleyne at Pine Basin and Milo Lodge meet Queen’s College at Friendship.
On show will be a number of players who recently returned home from Jamaica and England with the national under-15 and under -14 teams respectively.
Combermere topped zone ‘A’ with 33 points including four wins. Lodge won zone ‘B’ with 23 points with two victories, Queen’s College copped zone ‘C’ with maximum 40 points from five matches, including one win by default.
Alleyne qualified for the fourth semi-final position as the best second-placed team with an average points per match of 5.0, as opposed to Coleridge & Parry with 3.8 and Lester Vaughan with 3.25.  Alleyne registered three wins.
Final points standings after preliminary rounds:
Zone A: Combermere 33, Alleyne 26, Grantley Adams 23, St. Michael 20, Harrison College 12, St. George 4, Parkinson 3.
Zone B: Lodge 23, Lester Vaughan 14, Alexandra 14, Foundation 13, Graydon Sealy 8, Princess Margaret 1.
Zone C: Queen’s College 40, Coleridge & Parry 22, St. Leonard’s 18, Deighton Griffith 9, Ellerslie 8, Frederick Smith 1.
