Hotel executive Colin Jordan may well find himself seeking to win for the Bees the St Peter seat now held by former Prime Minister Owen Arthur.
Members and senior officers of the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) St Peter branch yesterday declared they wanted the accountant and hotel executive to replace Arthur as the party’s “caretaker” for the constituency now that Arthur had resigned from the BLP and was sitting in the House of Assembly as an independent MP.
And party chairman Mia Mottley last night voiced some support for Jordan, saying he was “a man in whom I have the greatest degree of confidence”.
However, Jordan, who has spent more than 20 years working in the tourism industry and is a former head of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA), still has to face a formal nomination process.
A cautious Jordan told the media last night: “I have always been willing to serve in whatever area I’ve been called to serve and if it means serving St Peter, which is a parish that I grew up in, that has shaped me, then I’ll accept it.”
He added: “We did have a certain demonstration of support this evening, but the process has to take its course.”
The branch’s support for Jordan was announced by public relations officer Carl Boyce after a meeting of more than two hours members had at the Alexandra School, with Mottley and other members of the BLP’s Executive Council, including general secretary Senator Dr Jerome Walcott. (TY)
