Brittons Hill repel U-21s

Fri, October 26, 2012 - 12:02 AM

The Under-21 squad were the latest casualties as Brittons Hill Combined stayed on track for back-to-back titles in the Sir Roy Trotman Zone of the Barbados Workers’ Union Netball Competition.

Last Sunday night at the Netball Stadium, Brittons Hill beat the Under-21s 50-37 in the feature game to maintain their unbeaten record.

Shannon Hackett gave her best shooting effort of the tournament – 19 goals from 21 attempts – but could not do it all for the youth side. Shonica Wharton was limited in her attempts with nine from 17, and Chemyne Alleyne scored nine from 13.

Brittons Hill overcame a first-quarter deficit (11-12) to lead 25-18 and 41-26.

Kimberley Brathwaite scored 28 from 39 and Latonia Blackman 22 from 29 in the victory.

Former double crown champions A&A Connections have moved into sole second place after handing Wolverines their second straight defeat.

Playing without their all-important shooter Laurel Browne who picked up an injury in the last match against Britton’s Hill, Wolverines were beaten 64-43.

Shakera Boxill stepped up to score 21 from 31 goals for Wolverines. Veteran Adonna Griffith added 19 from 33 and Tricia Briggs, three.

Lydia Bishop scored 36 from 43 and Renee Rudder 28 from 36 for A&A, who had defeated Remii Ballers 52-43 in their last match.

Using a host of shooters, A&A got 23 from 27 from Bishop; Colleen Griffith scored eight from 15; Natalie Bailey 11 from 16; and goal attacks Joyann Cooke (1/1), Rudder (seven from 13) and Sabreena Smith (two from three) combined for the other ten goals.

Remii started slowly with Fadelma Layne who scored half of her ten attempts. When goal attack Kellyann Knight (who was late) came into the game, their offence improved. Knight scored 14 from 21 and Alicia Lashley, 24 from 32.
