A half-century?by Shamarh Brooks and a four-wicket haul from pacer Tino Best highlighted the second day’s play of the final Barbados cricket trial match at the Pine Basin yesterday in preparation for the Regional Four-Day Competition.
Brooks, who batted patiently but still managed some attacking strokes, stroked the ball to all parts of the ground during his knock of 65.
This was after opener Rashidi Boucher was caught by wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich off a fiery Best for four.
Brooks was associated in a second-wicket stand of 34 with Omar Phillips before the latter was caught by Christopher Jordan off the bowling of Nikolai Charles for 28.
Jonathan Carter was run out for eight but Brooks then found an able partner in captain Kirk Edwards with whom he added 65 for the third wicket.
Best, reintroduced from the northern end, quickly accounted for Brooks, who was bowled offering no stroke. Brooks’ innings included four fours and lasted 201 minutes while he faced 167 balls.
Edwards got to 31 before he was caught off Best, who also trapped Dwayne Smith leg before wicket for a “duck”.
Wickets continued to fall steadily and only a dogged knock from Kenroy Williams (34 not out) allowed Edwards’ team to pass the 202 made by Dowrich’s XI.
Best has so far taken four for 41 off 12 overs and he got good assistance from left-arm spinner Derick Bishop (two for 27) off 20 overs. Play resumes today at 10 a.m.
