Broomes: My best always

Broomes: My best always Alexandra School principal, Jeff Broomes. (FP)

By Maria Bradshaw | Tue, January 24, 2012 - 12:07 AM

Principal Jeff Broomes had very little to say yesterday following Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s announcement that the 30 striking teachers would return to the classrooms at Alexandra School tomorrow.

When contacted for his reaction to the statements made by the Prime Minister, Broomes responded: “I don’t know what he based his comments on, so I can’t respond to what he said.”

Asked how he felt about the return of the striking teachers, who had previously vowed not to go back to the classroom as long as he was at the helm, Broomes stated: “I will continue to do my job the best way I can. They are the ones who said they can’t work with me. I never said I can’t work with anyone. I never left my job. I would have liked them to be teaching from Day 1. I did not want the children to suffer anymore and the Prime Minister has made his assessment.”

Broomes was not at the St Peter school when Stuart announced the temporary resolution to the 20-day impasse.

It is over to you now Mr Broomes, and remember, the ball is now in your court. I do not know you personally but, from what I have heard and seen, we can expect the utmost in professionalism from you in this new round. We do not expect any less than your very best. Nigel D.

How is it that at the time of the PM’s press conference, Mr Broomes was present at the Ministry with the same Minister and Chief Education Officer who were so ineffective in the last 20 days?

Keep up the good work Broomy, anytime you are a no nonsense person in today’s world you are always going to get problems from the slackers. It is the kids you have to try and help. Stay strong but fare.
