The chief executive of the National Cultural Foundation, Cranston Browne, is impressed with how Barbadians have supported the Crop Over, in spite of?the trying economic times.
He told the SUNDAY?SUN yesterday that this year in particular had been financially challenging for the NCF, which had a budget of $6 million for the eight-week festival.
Speaking at a news conference at Hilton Barbados, he said the commitment of the public to the festival had made 2014 a success.
Adrian Elcock, chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority, said the country had also done well in terms of visitor support.
“I have not got final numbers yet but if you talk to any ramp staff at the airport you will see that all the planes are full,” Elcock said. “We have 10 000 seats out of New York on jet blue, which is having two flights daily [including] the red eye flight. We have seven flights a week out of British Airways and seven on Virgin. (MB)
