Burnt out

Christmas morning was not a jolly good time for 48-year-old Sinclair Alleyne, as he lost his Haynesville, St James home to fire.

And being the fifth home in the area struck by four fires in the last two years, it rang some alarm bells among residents about electrical issues and their safefy in the housing units.

On October 25, Ryan Odle had to count his lucky stars as a fire broke out in his daughter’s bedroom, destroying the room and its contents save for a few school uniforms. He said the fire could have been electrical in nature as there were prior electrical issues in the unit.

Shanika Bailey and Marcia Smith were not as fortunate on October 15, 2015, when a fire extensively damaged both of their housing units, leaving three people homeless.

On April 29 of that same year, it took a team effort from Rosalind McCollin and Mervin Greaves to hold off a fire which they said started at an electrical socket. (AD)
