BUT waiting

BUT waiting Pedro Shepherd (FP)

THE BARBADOS UNION of Teachers (BUT) does not appear to have any issues with Alexandra School principal Jeff Broomes.

In an interview yesterday, new president Pedro Shepherd said the BUT was simply in a wait-and-see mode.

“We have members there, and we have met with them and they have reported they are relatively comfortable at Alexandra. So we are awaiting the commission’s report and if we have to comment on it, we will,” Shepherd said.

He added that the BUT had kept out of the dispute between Broomes and the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union (BSTU) as it had no place stepping in, especially as, in addition to its members not having any major issues, it was not invited. (CA)

Is Mr Broomes still resting in accordance with Doctor's orders? Could that be a reason for the calm?

Mr Shepherd's comment is hilarious. The BUT is quite shameless. "The mouth is muzzled by the hand that feeds it." (Guyanese poet, Martin Carter)

The BUT's earlier claim that it was not even informed by the BSTU of the Alexandra issue and Shepherd's present claim that its members are "relatively comfortable" at Alexandra in order to excuse its blatant failure to support the teachers of the BSTU both deserve four Pinocchios! Check the Washington Post for information on the "Pinocchio Test"! Four Pinocchios indicate a "Whopper"! We need a local Fact-Checkers association. How can the BUT ever hope to get the support of BSTU teachers again as it did overwhelmingly get with the Louis Lynch issue? Shame on the BUT, its immediate past President (now promoted to Deputy Chief Education Officer!) and now its new president. Quid pro quo is a hell of a thing.
