Several?employers in Barbados are guilty of threatening to fire workers who express an interest in joining a trade union.
That’s according to Sir Roy Trotman, general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU).
In addition, the union boss said he had identified employers from a range of sectors who had taken an “anti-trade union stance” despite the provision for all workers to exercise their right.
Stating that the trade union had “other problems of a similar character” to that of the dispute with telecommunications giant LIME, Sir Roy also warned that there would  be a “wind of change” for those who tried to “push back workers’ rights”.
“Some people didn’t want to listen . . . and I venture to tell you that before we get to the middle of the year, we are going to have other examples,” he said.
