Every politician hoping?to run on a Barbados Labour Party (BLP) ticket in the next general election will have to go through the party’s constitutional process of being nominated and winning an election at the branch level.
That word has come down from Opposition Leader Owen Arthur.
A couple hours after former minister of tourism Noel Lynch easily won one such election Sunday in the St Michael South constituency, Arthur made it clear that there were no “perpetual candidates” with an election on the horizon.
“We will show the public that to take charge of the country as a party, we will first take care of our business according to this party’s constitution,” he said. “There are no perpetual candidates in the party. I had to be nominated and win to run for the people of St Peter [and] Noel Lynch had to be nominated and win to run for the people of St Michael South.”
