BARBADOS HAS to guard against high expenses forcing entertainers to cut back on the showmanship and spectacle offered during the Crop Over Festival’s competitions, according to calypso monarch Ian Webster.
He told reporters yesterday it was such an expensive business that entertainers ran the risk of ending up deep in debt if they did not win or place high in the finals.
That could lead some to sharply cut back on the number of supporting acts, including dancers, pyrotechnics and other crowd-pleasing aspects of the qshows, he reasoned.
Webster referred to the Sweet Soca and Party Monarch shows held this year at the redeveloped Bushy Park racing complex.
