CFU recovery in committees hands

Thu, January 19, 2012 - 12:02 AM

NEW YORK CITY – Regional officials have started the reconstruction work on the Caribbean Football Union with the appointment of three new committees.

Media reports indicated that the normalisation committee appointed under the guidance of the sport’s world governing body has formed three new working groups to “oversee financial, legal and football matters” until the CFU congress in May.

Luis Hernández, president of the Cuban Football Association, will head the CFU Football Committee focusing on putting plans in place to develop the game in the region over the next four years, along with a review of the CFU competitions format.

Larry Mussenden, president of the Bermuda Football Association, will lead the CFU Legal Committee, and Cheney Joseph, president of the Grenada Football Association, will chair the CFU Finance Committee.

The CFU is trying to rebuild its image which was badly tarnished last year, following the cash-for-votes scandal that brought down former president Austin “Jack” Warner, and led to either suspensions, fines or reprimands for several other top regional officials. (CMC)
