FORTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Joanne Cheeseman was remanded to Dodds Prison until November 10 when she appeared in court today facing drug charges for a second time.

According to police, the former customs broker went to the Bridgetown Port on October 10 to clear a barrel of foodstuff and Customs officials found it contained five pounds of compressed cannabis concealed in eight cans of coffee.

Cheeseman, of 2nd Avenue Melvins, Black Rock, St Michael, was detained and charged with possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation of the drug.

She was already on $50 000 bail for similar offences which allegedly occurred earlier this year.

When she appeared before acting Magistrate Alliston Seale today, her attorney Shane Thompson argued that it was not automatic that an individual on bail would be remanded when accused again of similar offences.

However, prosecutor Sergeant Ensley Grainger said he feared further allegations could arise or Cheeseman would not turn up for court if she was granted bail again. (SD/NB)
