THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT has upped the number of scholarships offered to Barbadians this year.
And of the ten students awarded, half of them are males.
“This year, the Chinese side increased the scholarships from four to ten to help more Barbadian students get the opportunities to China, learn Chinese language, acquire modern knowledge and understand the Oriental country in depth . . .,” Chinese ambassador to Barbados, Wang Ke said.
She added that “the mutual beneficial cooperation and friendly exchanges between the two countries has much potential in the field of trade, investment, tourism, renewable energy, culture, sports and education”.
“This will provide the students who get the chance to study in China and master the linguistic and professional skill with more career opportunities,” the Ambassador stated.
She was speaking at a reception for scholarship students at the Chinese Embassy in Golf View Terrace, Rockley, Christ Church on Wednesday evening.
The ambassador noted that 41 Barbadians had obtained Chinese Government Scholarships as at the end of 2013, and encouraged the students to be good ambassadors of Barbados through their grades and interactions, as well as to explore Chinese culture through its people. (LW)
