Much good should come from this visit. Barbados has long been protected and defended by the U.S. Stability in this region is of utmost importance to all concerned. Barbados is at the forefront in this venture.

Comment LinkI wonder if there is time enough for Barbadian officials to hold exploratory dialogue on several issues important to Barbados’ tourism. 1) The resumption of the Grantley Adams Airport as a category I airport. That has taken a decade for local officials to raise standards at the airport to seek that. 2) border pre-clearance status for the airport. (Currently other regional locales have this: Bermuda, The Bahamas, and Aruba.) The Dominican Republic is attempting to be granted this status as well.
3) Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) Barbados is one of the only nations in the region not taking part ( http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_3256.html ). Who’s ‘doing’ is that? Is it ours or the government of the U.S.?

Comment LinkLove her husband. Obama’s first mistake can’t have a female Secretary of State dealing with middle east affairs. Sad to say woman are still 3rd class citizens in the Middle East, and her refusal to give up, in the face of defeat in the primary say she cant be trusted in president obama’s administration. But truth is I like her as a human being, and as a woman. Welcome to my island Mrs Clinton, the oldest democracy in the western hemisphere. Welcome to Barbados we are happy you are here.

Comment LinkWe Bajans are technicaly Americans too and share and fight to achieve close to the same dream so far of social freedoom of life with economic independence, and freedom of and from religious institutions.. Yes we been here for 300 years, we need;
1. help and a nudge to hold a referendum and become a republic with an “indepently elected” president like U.S.A style instead of subjugating our children to bow to European Monarchies under this faulty backhanded PM Party Kindmaker selection process.
2. More liberal visa processes for USA permannenet residentcy visa and green card, i.e , increased quotas alocated specially to small island states(excpet jamaica) with more numbers for our sibling applications visa and two year working hoildays

Barbados does not appear on the WHTI list because in 2003/4 we had mandated US citizens to enter the country with a valid passport. The WHTI was implemented three or four years later.
