Concern over crime in region

THE LEVEL OF VIOLENCE in the region can be turned around with the right level of programmes.
That is one of the key findings of a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report that is scheduled to be released in December.
The report, which was led by Dr Anthony Harriott, professor of political sociology and director of the Institute of Criminal Justice and Security at the University of the West Indies, is still at the draft stages and Harriott and other members of the team are moving around the seven countries surveyed for consultations with the relevant agencies.
Harriott and Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, United Nations resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, gave members of the Press a brief overview of the report at UN House yesterday. (YB)
