Tempers flared initially, but they subsequently cooled when the National Conservation Commission (NCC) and other officials met with beach vendors at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed yesterday.
NCC general manager Keith Neblett used the opportunity to highlight a number of concerns that had been plaguing the commission, especially in the Paynes Bay area.
Among the issues discussed were illegal vending, drug peddling, the beach chair vending policy – with a view to determining capacity on the beaches – and the disposal of garbage.
Here, jet ski operator Carlos Douglin (left) having a word with Deputy Chief Environmental Health Officer Desmond King, as others sign up for the NCC T-shirts.

Barbados lovely beaches could do better without the rastaman’s selling fruit and of course drugs, they frequently prey on young girls wearing two piece suits.
Seems to me that Barbados spends a lot of money promoting tourism but when the tourist’s arrive with their money to spend they all to often run head on with the real issues, like being harrassed on the beach, being pimped for illegal drugs and whatever. The ‘police’ seem to look the other way even when asked for help.
Like other issues on the Island, this one seems to remain in the background. And you wonder why some never return for a second visit?
I’m wondering if the only reason for return visits are the all inclusive resorts on the West coast where visitors never have to leave the property to deal with your insane traffic madness and there is around the clock security to shield them from the real issues of crime on your Island.
