Barbadian artists are getting assistance in exposing their high quality works to the multi-million-dollar tourism market.

The Crane Resort, which attracts thousands of international visitors every year, has created the Village Gallery to celebrate and expose Barbadian artists and also assist in the development of the arts on the island.

At present the works and creativity of 18 of the island’s best known male and female artists are on show at the attractively designed gallery and have been receiving rave reviews.

Managing director of the Crane Resort, Paul Doyle said the formal opening of the Village Gallery recently was the culmination of three years of planning and was also evidence of the resort’s commitment to assist and celebrate Barbadian artists and craftspersons.

“The Village Gallery is all about local artistes and every piece on display speaks about Barbados.

We feel that highlighting things Barbadian is important to the whole vibe and feeling you get when you visit the Crane which attracts a lot of people for a variety of activities. I am confident the Village Gallery will go a long way in helping artistes to promote their work internationally,” said Doyle.

Along with the indoor exhibition, other visual artists, such as craftsmen and women who produce cloth prints, jewelry and leather goods are among those who offer their products for sale outdoors three times per week at the Crane Resort.

Well-known artists such as Neville Legall, Victor Collector, Harvey Belgrave, Irene Banfield, Norma Farmer, Virgil Broodhagen, Lisa Cole, Rasheed Boodhoo, Susan Alleyne-Forde, Glenroy Jordan, Catherine Chee-a-Tow, Fred Odle, Everick Lynton, Vishni Gopwani, Bob Kiss, Professor Henry Fraser , Lord Van and Terrence Rupert Piggott are among those showcasing works at the Crane.
