The first Brewster’s Road Crew fete for the Crop Over season was launched at a heaving corner of Kensington Oval.
Despite not having the scheduled live entertainment, the massive crowd nonetheless partied hard into the wee hours of Saturday morning to the expert music mixing by DJs including Peter Coppin and Daddy Bubbles.
Tremayne Austin, one of the directors of Brewster’s Road Crew, said that the outfit will hold 12 events this Crop Over season – the regular Friday fetes and two special events.
Aside from providing an entertainment spot for Barbadians, Austin said that one of the many objectives of the Brewster’s Road Crew was to enhance the quality of live events.
“What we have been trying to do for the last number of years was to not only enhance the quality of events in Barbados, but to work with our local entertainment . . . hiring and promoting them via radio and social media,” he said.
On the subject of employment, Austin said that through the years Brewster’s Road’s growth enabled them to hire a wide range of personnel.
“Apart from working with our local entertainment you will see we have over 60 staff members, people who look forward to these events,” he added.
“We have security firms that have been formed as a result of the association [with us] . . .  so when it comes to offering consultancy in events, we’re able to bring a full bar, security door and sound team. So our ability to employ people is ongoing.
“It’s not just about us trying to make money, enhance music for Barbados or by extension enhance the economy, but it is providing a full genre of services, from which everyone will benefit.”
Regarding this year’s Crop Over bands, Austin said that Brewster’s Road had partnered with Mas Invasion J’ouvert band for a second time this year, pushing their band, along with Fantasy Barbados Kadooment Band.
“We’ve worked with bands before (such as) Chetwyn Stuart of Power X 4. So we are there to help in any way,” said Austin.“It’s about building relationships and working together.”
