Crop Over at Ilaro

Crop Over at Ilaro Prime Minister Freundel Stuart with US-based Barbadians Jeanette Holder, Andrea Armstrong, Waven Brown and Janice Smith. (Gercine Carter)

Guests danced in the rain, unable to resist the sweet rhythms of Red Plastic Bag, Mikey, John King and other calypsonians performing at the Prime Minister’s annual Crop Over Gala at Ilaro Court last week.

Hundreds thronged the sprawling grounds of the official residence for the post-Crop Over party, and it was a big treat for many Barbadians from the diaspora, here for the Second Barbados Network Consultation.

Among this group were Panamanians and Cubans with Bajan names like Johnson and Clarke, all ecstatic at being in the land of their Barbadian foreparents.

For two and a half hours popular hits from this year’s soca and kaiso competitions flooded the air and when the National Anthem brought things to an end promptly at 10 p.m., guests reluctantly filed out from what everyone was saying was a great party.

Does Mr Stuart know that the people are complaining about the number of parties in Barbados? He is contributing to the deliquency of older people.
