NOT ONLY THE THREE Cavalcades have been affected as government continues to tighten up on spending.
Several other events from this year’s Crop Over Festival have either been cancelled or changed.
These were announced today by Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley during the annual Crop-Over media briefing in the conference room of the Ministry of Culture, Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St Michael.
The Cavalcades were scheduled to be held on May 3, 10 and 16.
The following is a list of the major changes which were announced today:
– The three Cavalcades which were to be held at Weymouth, Gall Hill Playing Field and Deacons Playing Field have been cancelled.
– The Crop Over Heritage Lecture on June 15 will now be held at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed.
– The Opening Gala, which was traditionally held in Queen’s Park, will now be called the City Fest and Delivery of the Last Cane, and will be held in Bridgetown.
– The Panyard Lime, which was scheduled for July 10, has been cancelled.
– Pan Pun de Sand remains a free event, but there will be a paid section for VIPs.
– The Heritage Bus Tour, which was to be held on June 8, has also been cancelled.
– Bridgetown Market Comes to Pelican (July 30) has been cancelled.
– Debate is continuing whether to hold the Pic-O-De-Crop Finals at the Wildey Gymnasium or Kensington Oval. The date is August 1.
– There has been a change to the route of the August 2 Foreday Morning Jam. It will remain on Saturday, but will now start at BTI Car Park, BIDC and Weymouth B. Police said it would be a security nightmare if it was held on Friday night.
– The preliminaries of the Party Monarch Competition will no longer be done in the tents. Contestants will now have to submit a CD as is done for the Sweet Soca Competition. (SAT)
