BARBADOS’ CRUISE PASSENGER arrivals are expected to surge to 735 000 this year – an eleven per cent increase over last year. By the end of 2015, the projection is for 790 000.
These are the figures which Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy cited as an indication that cruise partners were showing confidence in the Barbados product.
Sealy shared the statistics at a shore excellence workshop for taxi and tour operators this morning at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and encouraged the operators to equip themselves to deliver the best service they could as the island’s front line ambassadors.
He anticipated the increasing numbers would have a ripple effect on the economy with a spin-off in cruise spend.
He therefore encouraged the operators to take advantage of training being made available to sharpen their skills.
Chief executive officer of Barbados Port Inc. David Jean-Marie said the workshop was part of the strategic management programme of the Port which regarded continuing education and training as critical to the delivery of excellent customer service. (GC)
