Some Drainage Division workers who voiced their concerns about being forced to work without adequate protective equipment are now complaining of victimization on the job since their pictures and stories appeared in this newspaper.
A source close to the employees claim that two workers from St Michael, who were working at the Pine Road Headquarters, have been reassigned to rural areas while another was sent into early retirement.
One is now attached to the Chance Hall depot in St Lucy while the other was transferred to Belleplaine, St Andrew – three weeks after the pictures were published, said the source.
General secretary of the Unity Workers Union, Caswell Franklyn, confirmed that one worker whom he represents had been transferred, which led him to write to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment under Section 12 of the Public Service Act claiming a grievance. (LK)
