The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) has made a fresh call for an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and the Social Partnership to develop “a protocol specifically aimed at recovery and growth in the Barbados economy”.
General secretary Dennis DePeiza made the plea at a Press conference yesterday afternoon at CTUSAB’s Beckles Road, St Michael headquarters, while delivering his May Day message and in light of continuing retrenchment exercises across Government’s statutory corporations.
He had made two previous requests for meetings with the Prime Minister and the Social Partnership, but reported he had received no written confirmation from Stuart. However, he added he believed a response would be forthcoming.
“I have every reason to believe that he is well aware that we have been pushing this matter and we are optimistic that sometime within the immediate future . . . and I don’t mean sometime within the next quarter the year, I am hoping very shortly that this discussion will unfold,” he said while fielding questions from the media.
