Cuban safe!
By Barry Alleyne | Wed, February 08, 2012 - 12:11 AM
Raul T. Garcia’s life is not in danger. His future, however, remains quite uncertain.
Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs Adriel Brathwaite told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that he had personally checked on the affairs of the Cuban, who is detained at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds, and Barbadians should not alarm themselves about his physical condition.
Garcia, who has been on a hunger strike at the country’s lone correctional facility for 22 days, has a heart condition and has lost more than 25 pounds in an effort to earn his freedom, either through deportation or release into Barbadian society.
“I made the decision to check Mr Garcia [Monday] and his life is not in danger,” Brathwaite said yesterday. “He is a bit dehydrated, obviously because he has been on a hunger strike, but we aren’t overly concerned about that.”

Mr. Garcia has been on a hunger strike for 22 plus days and has lost at least 25 pounds and is obviously dehydrated and Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite can safely say after visiting him on Monday that:
“He is a bit dehydrated, obviously because he has been on a hunger strike, but we aren’t overly concerned about that.”
So then, after 22 days of this unfolding drama, what is he (Adriel Brathwaite) concerned about then?!
Who does really put these people in these posts though??! Fah REAL!

Why do you insist of being critical of your people?
Raul Garcia is a bit dehydrated, which is expected, but I am sure that if he was in any immediate danger, he would have been transferred to a hospital facility.
Give the Attorney General some credit.

Comment LinkThe attorney general is not overly concerned because its not he’s son or family member but Raul Garcia’s mother and family members are very concern.

Comment Link@ Tanya Forde well said i completely agree….it is evident that in this country rite now it seems to be a case of “monkey handling gun”, i say this because whenever a situation arises the powers that be either don’t know how to handle it or if it is to publicized state obvious facts for the public. a perfect example the Alexandra issue and now this…this is supposed to be a democratic nation the public has a right to know the truth or is this matter to trivial for the attorney general’s attention i mean it must be cause the way how he made his comment it seems as though he is saying hey look man only because the public looking at it let me see the man just to say that i was there and tell the people something…@ kay-rani confidence and trust is earned it is not given and with statements like those well lets just say that the attorney general leaves alot to be desired….

Comment LinkNo but seriously dehydration is just one of the first side effects of his hunger strike and the worst mind you because the human body can go a while without food but water is a must and the Attorney General is not concerned, I think he needs to stop trying to down play the situation that man’s health has to be going into jeopardy by now 22 days sounds good do you realize it will soon be a MONTH this man has been on hunger strike and much longer that he has been imprisoned after being deemed a FREE man! This is clearly a Human Rights Injustice and Barbados needs to act amicably on this one and stop following the lead of the USA and Cuba who have turned him down. Offer this man a stay on the outside away from prison walls and treatment in some kind of halfway house if they exists here. He is a FREE man why do we continue to imprison him!

Comment LinkGarcia must be on an IV pump that he is only “slightly” dehydrated after being on a hunger strike for 22 days!
I dare say that I am not overly critical of anyone. I state the facts. What we have here is a callous utterance being made by someone who needs to be advised about public speaking, with regard to the human rights situation at hand. One cannot “slight” the ordeal this man is going through.
@Wayne Husbands… You seem very full of anger. Note that this is a democratic society and we all have freedom of speech. You seem to be mixed up with Cuba. Tek Yah Time and get some help.

Comment Link@to Whom It May Concern
Judging by of the comments that some people write in the Nationnews, I fear that if Barbados was at war, these same people would easily side with the enemy.
