FORMER PRIME MINISTER Owen Arthur has already declared his finances to the country.  Now he wants every minister of Government  to do the same.

The former Prime Minister claimed last night that ministerial impropriety was at a high in Barbados and privatization, where workers were allowed to share in ownership of state entities, was the only way to prevent corruption  in Government.

“They [the Democratic Labour Party] said before the last election they would do it [declare assets]. They said there would be transparency. Now is the time to do it,” Arthur said during  a Barbados Labour Party Christ Church  East branch meeting at the St Christopher Primary School.

“Bring it to account. I want to know what  they had then, what they have now, and how they got it,” Arthur told the gathering.

This will never happen with an election dawning. The
politicians in Barbados on both sides have clearly shown that they are unaccountable to no one and
therefore they can do whatever pleases them. These
'honourable men' will not declare their assets, bring
the integrity legislation bill,or the freedom of information bill to the Parliament of Barbados.Too many issues have been ignored by our leaders in this country because they are in privileged positions and are therefore unaffected by these issues. It is very sad to see what our country has been reduced to.

It is people with the mind set of Tech King, that has helped to continue the same behaviour that he is writing about. Those cynical thoughts, if not vigorously challenged, by actions such as what Mr. Arthur has done, is the only way that transparency of our officials will be done. What Mr. Arthur has done, is to lead by example, and not long talk, as we say in Bim.
It is time that this level of accountability be part and parcel, to all those who work in our government institutions, and to any person who ascribe to represent us in any position of our government, event of if it were the position of Dog Catcher.
With Mr. Arthur's stand, Tech King, this will be the first spark at destroying all of your and all the others who harbours such cynical thoughts.

Why only this group of Politicians should declare their assets? Fair is fair. When Mr. Arthur was Prime Minister no one bothered him , why is he bothering these people. I do not vote, so I am neither DLP Nor BLP. Just saying.

Col Cam: The DLP brought this issue into focus , so it's only fair that they be asked about the state of play. This was a campaign promise just go ahead and fulfill it.
