Discreetwon indeed

Everything was perfect yesterday for Discreetwon who came out with a devastating burst to run away with the 46th Anniversary Of Independence Handicap over 1 800 metres at the Garrison Savannah.
The Martin and Daniel Raizman-owned colt was well ridden by Reshaun Latchman in the afternoon feature race for three-year-old and older horses rated 100 to 120 and also open to horses rated 99 and under.
This was one of three winners on the card for young Latchman, who lost his apprenticeship claim by winning the feature event.
After starter Mark Batson sent the field off, Captain Sully went to the lead followed by Kendal Moon, Aristodemus, A.P. Vincero, Little Man Arran, Discreetwon and Daga.
Positions remained unaltered until the three-furlong marker. With Captain Sully still in the lead, Aristodemus, Kendal Moon and Lady Quill went into challenging mode while Discreetwon was noticeably gaining ground on the leaders.
Kendal Moon brought Aristodemus and a struggling Captain Sully into the homestretch, quickly extending her advantage to a length – but in the twinkling of an eye, Disceetwon smoothly motored past her for a comfortable victory.
Latchman put away his riding crop as the handsome son of Discreet Cat out of Empress Of India coasted to his third consecutive victory and his second over 1 800 metres.
Daga found herself behind a wall of traffic at a critical stage and was forced to come wide with a sweeping run that put her in second position.
Erados under Antonio Bishop ran another encouraging race, finishing third, with Kendal Moon and Antonio Whitehall settling for fourth.
Latchman enjoyed back-to-back wins in the day’s first two races. He started with Rahy Stormello for owners L. G. Miller III, JP, and S. Miller and trainer Victor Cheeseman in the Armed Units Condition Race over 1 100 metres.
He then partnered the Robin Bynoe, S. Walcott, Senator Geoffrey Cave and Stephen Bynoe-owned and trained colt Flying South first past the post in the Barbados Cadet Corps Condition Race for two-year-old maidens over 1 100 metres.
In Race 5, the God Bless Bim Handicap for three-year old and older horses rated 65 to 85 and also open to horses rated 64 and under, Vapour Trail showed she is not only blessed with speed but with class.
The daughter of Happy Memories out of Sky Beauty made it five wins from her five starts as she skilfully disposed of her 11 challengers.
Smartly ridden by leading apprentice rider Antonio Whitehall, the Sir Charles Williams-owned filly had settled in the middle of the pack.
Early leader Nomoreginrog clocked 23.4, 48.2 and 1:13.4, but Vapour Trail never broke a sweat.
