The race for promotion to the Premier League took a new twist on Wednesday night after the latest round of matches in the Barbados Football Association’s Division One competition.

Leaders Cosmos logged a big 4-1 victory over St Peter neighbours Road View to remain at the top of the standings with 36 points from 19 matches, but Crane & Equipment Ellerton moved into second position on 34 points from 18 games with a 2-0 victory over Silver Sands.

Ellerton have overtaken Empire, who slipped to third position on 32 points from 20 matches, after a 2-2 draw with the struggling Deacons side.

St John Sonnets also made a move up the table with a 4-1 thrashing of Maxwell. They are now fourth on 30 points from 18 matches.

In another match between two lowly sides, Indar Weir Clarke’s Hill beat Benfica 2-0 to ease their relegation worries while University of the West Indies and Parish Land played to a 1-1 draw. (EZS)
