Political pundits appear sharply divided on former Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s future in politics, with diverging forecasts of a possible alliance with Government, a return to his party and his continuing as an Independent MP.
The views were floated yesterday when former general secretary of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), George Griffith; pollster Peter Wickham, political scientist Dr George Belle and political strategist Reudon Eversley took part in Brass Tacks Sunday on VOB, with moderator Corey Lane.
Wickham, admitting that he had not anticipated former Democratic Labour Party (DLP) leader Clyde Mascoll suddenly crossing to the BLP years ago, said: “I would not be surprised if Arthur re-emerges in some way, shape or form in association with the Democratic Labour Party because to me it would be a combination of all that we have seen with this politics of inclusion.”
Belle said he was “not persuaded that Mr Arthur is abandoning the Barbados Labour Party”. (TY)
