The ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Government is making a major blunder by distancing itself from certain elements of the business sector.

Opposition Leader Owen Arthur made this charge last night while marking the opening of an office for the St James North branch of the Barbados Labour Party in Thorpes.

Arthur said he was disappointed that at a time key sectors such as tourism and international business were struggling, Government was refusing to meet with leaders in the business community.

“This Government feels that rather than work hand in glove with the business community of Barbados . . . it can generate political capital for itself by trying to walk a separate road from the business community, as if that road will lead us to progress,” he said.

Interesting comment coming from you Mr Arthur especially since we understand how the big six 'barricades' themselves once the Bees are not in power. And who remembers the mass exodus of the rich to places like Australia during the 1973 oil crisis, when poor Bajans could have done with a little help?
