DRESSED IN RED and white, general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) Roslyn Smith was Santa Claus who brought the best gift for the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) workers – a seven per cent wage increase and back pay on top of that.
The NUPW had been negotiating for a six per cent increase for almost a year and at one point led worker demonstrations for several days.
On Monday the GAIA management agreed on the pay raise for its 400 workers the increase which will be at three per cent for 2015 and 2016 and the additional four per cent in 2017.
Smith, who spoke to the media yesterday after a meeting with GAIA staff at the GAIA corporate offices, said that when the negotiations started the management had offered a three per cent increase and they were able to reach seven per cent. (LK)
