Dottin rapped over response

Dottin rapped over response David Comissiong. (FP)

Sat, April 21, 2012 - 12:06 AM

Attorney-at-law David Comissiong has accused Police Commissioner Darwin Dottin of personally attacking him, following calls for foreign help in investigating the police killing of a young man earlier this month.

Comissiong, who represents the family of deceased Jamar Maynard, has taken issue with comments made by Dottin in rejecting his requests for a foreign investigator to be brought in to lead the probe and for the officer who pulled the trigger to be suspended.

In his response to the calls made in an April 11 letter and in an interview with the SATURDAY SUN, Dottin said local systems were robust enough to ensure there was no cover-up and questioned whether Comissiong’s “comments on issues like this are sufficiently balanced” given that he was silent when two police officers were shot in the line of duty last year.

Comissiong has since written a second letter to the police chief expressing surprise at his reaction. (DP)

They're probably going to be 'suspended with pay.' So might as well let them work since tax-payers are still going to pay for them while on suspension. The force is already understaffed as it is. Perhaps bring in some junior police from NYC, Toronto, London, DC, Atlanta, or other foreign nations in CARICOM. Wherever the most qualified are.

Since I am from a Policing Family i always tend to be on the side of the Police and by extension The Commissioner of Police, and as much as i hate to admit it, i am going to back Mr. Comissiong, this time around, because the Commish should have stayed away from inflammatory like that. that was quite unnecessary and unwanted.
if this incident had occurred in New York City, the IA (Internal Affairs Dept) would have taken over the investigation,if it had taken place in the Province of Ontario,Canada, the SIU (Special Investigation Unit) would have taken over th investigation, i dont doubt that there are enough skilled investigators in Barbados, but with the closeness of the Members of the RBPF, Transparency will be seen as an issue if the members involved are found not guilty of any wrong doing, and it is for this reason ALONE, that a SENIOR OFFICER from a neighbouring Jurisdiction should be brought in to look into the Incident, and submit a Binding Report.
This is also something that should be a Permanent Part of CARICOM

as we look at our present state of affairs and current events,eg. rising criminal activity, increased firearm activity and involvement of illegal action, gang warfare, it is pertinent for us the look at this 360 degree perspective.reason,WHAT?cause,WHY?resolve,HOW. We cannot blame it on TV or MOVIES. In our generation we had john wayne and johnny weismiller. the same atrocities portrayed then are being portrayed now..the difference is who is being disenfrachised. and the willingness to go to extremes to let their voice be heard..and when thats not working 'like a shot'that will get their attention, its like a silent revolution... and if we choose to sweep this under the rug, delegate it to farce commisions, refuse to accept responsibilty. we will soon realize that we will become the same as those we now turn our nose up to. we will be ostracized just like those who we find comfort in ostracizing. ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY, BUT IT SURE FELL IN ONE

He (Comissiong) seems to always speak out against anything Barbadian. Is he Barbadian by birth? Just asking.

@mary, would you honestly say that this represents barbados? would you want the police to be the judge and the jury.is that what Barbados personifies? from another perspective it can be seen that he speaks out of injustice and unfair pratices.
